James Anderson Weaver Rose
ROSE, JAMES ANDERSON WEAVER passed away in Dallas on December 21, 2004. He was born in Lamesa, Texas on January 18, 1935. He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1953 where he excelled not only in class but also in athletics. He was a fast ball pitcher for the Golden Tornados and was known for his big sweeping curve ball which led the Lamesa American Legion Team to the state finals in 1952.
Jim attended undergraduate and law school at SMU where he was a member of the SAE Fraternity, captain of the SMU swim team that was the Southwest Conference Champions in 1957 and was elected to Blue Key National Honor Fraternity.
In law school he was elected to the Board of Editors of the Southwestern Law Journal, Barristers and to the Order of the Woolsack.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from law school in 1960, he joined the Dallas law firm of Thompson, Knight, Wright & Simmons which is now Thompson & Knight, LLP. He remained with the firm since that time. Jim was an excellent lawyer and remained active as a banking and real estate lawyer to the date of his passing. He served as President of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys in 1999 and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America from 1995 to date.
Jim was an avid sportsman with fly fishing and golf being his favorite sports. He played golf weekly at Brook Hollow Golf Club as part of a close group of friends referred to as the Gangsome. He also served on the Board of Directors of Brook Hollow Golf Club and as chairman of its legal committee. His love for sports and the law did not deter Jim from helping others.
At the time of his death, he was a Director of Dallas Habitat for Humanity and served as its General Counsel. He was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Most of all, Jim loved his children, his grandchildren and his wife, Jeanette. He often told his friends that the last 10 years, traveling and playing golf with Jeanette, have been the best times of his life. Jim was much beloved by family, friends and members of the Dallas Bar Association. He will be sorely missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Frank W. Rose, Sr. and his mother Eleanor Jett Rose Hatch of Lemasa [sic Lamesa], Texas.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette and his four children, Cynthia Wood and husband, Jeff, of Odessa, Texas, Jennifer Henderson and husband, Mitchell, of Frisco, Texas, James Anderson Weaver Rose, Jr. and wife Deborah of San Antonio, Texas and Allison Rose of Chicago, Illinois, and by his brother Frank W. Rose, Jr., and wife, Joan Rose of San Angelo, Texas. Jim has four grandchildren, Jill, Britton, Alex and James Anderson Weaver Rose, III.
A memorial service will be held at Wynne Chapel, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd, Dallas, 75205 at 2:00 p.m., December 24, 2004.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dallas Habitat for Humanity at 2800 North Hampton Road, Dallas, Texas 75212.
