James Avery Mosley
James Mosley was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on June 29, 1922 and died in Shreveport, Louisiana on July 27, 2013. James lived a long and productive life. Everyone that knew “Doc” Mosley would tell you that he was the nicest guy they ever met. Everybody who met him loved him.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park Funeral Home 1201 Louisiana Ave. Shreveport, LA 71101 on Wednesday July 31, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. on August 1, 2013 at Forest Park Cemetery 3700 St. Vincent Ave. Shreveport, LA 71103.
James lived his early life around North Little Rock area of Arkansas. His parents were James C. & Lula Burrow Mosley. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII as a radio operator. He served aboard a submarine out of the Aleutian Islands. After the war he went to the University of Arkansas and received a degree in pharmacy, later earning a Master's degree. He moved to Bossier City with his first wife, Doris, during the early 1950's where he eventually opened up Mosley's Greenacres Drug Store. Jim opened up two more drug stores in the area. He became very active in the community of Bossier City. He opened the first tack shop at Louisiana Downs. He was active in the Bossier City Lions Club, Rotary Club, and was a past-president of the Louisiana State Pharmacy Board. Jim's first wife, Doris, died in 1973. Jim married his second wife, Virginia in 1975. He co-owned and managed a beachfront hotel in Destin, Florida. After Jim and Virginia sold their house in Florida they moved to Vivian, Louisiana. In April he moved into the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City. He received excellent care at the War Veterans Home and met many old and new friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris McSpadden Mosley, seven brothers and sisters, Mamie Mosley Ausbrooks, Ethel Mosley Kryer, Tommy Mosley, Mary Mosley Liston, Helen Mosley Porter Stover, and Robert Mosley.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia Emmons Mosley; daughter, Laura Dupree; son-in-law, Thomas Dupree; grandson, Mark Dupree; Christina Tobin, Jessica Emmons and Artie Emmons. He had many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Everyone will miss his smile and his stories.
James lived a wonderful and abundantly full life. God blessed him with many friends and business associates. He is now home with God. I am sure God has great plans for him.
Jim said, “I have lived a great life for 91 years”.
