James Burnie Amason
1918 - 2008

James Burnie Amason passed away Friday morning, March 21, 2008.

He was born in Calion, AR on July 29, 1918, the son of the late James Thomas Amason and Versa Clara Murph Amason. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alton Vergil Amason and Carl Raymond Amason both of Calion. He was a 1940 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and served in the Army Air Force as a glider pilot. He retired after 28 years as a distribution designer with Entergy.

He was happily married for over 60 years to the former Lyda Shirey of Weldon, LA. He is survived by Lyda, two daughters, Rebecca Riner and her husband, Dan of Pine Bluff, Claire Kuhn and her husband Jim of Birmingham, AL, A son, Tommy Amason and his wife, Ann of Fordyce; five grandsons, Andy Amason and his wife, Joy of Benton, Andy Riner and his wife Candace of Mena, Joey Riner of Fayetteville, Jonathan Riner of Pine Bluff and Sam Kuhn of Birmingham, AL three granddaughters, Hope Amason of Gatlinburg, TN, Gaile Amason of Fayetteville, AR and Sally Kuhn of Birmingham, AL, two great granddaughters, Jessi and Meg Amason of Benton. He especially treasured his family. His grandchildren, and great grandchildren were very dear to him.

Services will be 2:00 pm Monday March 24, 2008 at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Stoney Point Cemetery, with the Rev. Stacy Reed officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fordyce.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Fordyce.
