J. C. Kelly, Sr. Dies; Funeral Set Wednesday
James Charles (Doc) Kelly, Sr., father of Monroe Chief of Police James C. Kelly, Jr., died at his home shortly before midnight Monday. He had been in failing health for several months. He was 71.
Funeral services will be held in the Hixson Brothers Funeral Home chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Filer Seals officiating. Interment, under the direction of Hixson, will follow in the Hasley cemetery in West Monroe.
Mr. Kelly, a veteran of World War I, had worked for the Brown Paper Mill and leter Olin Mathieson Corporation, for many years. He had been a resident of West Monroe for the past 30 years and lived at 211 Jonesboro Road at the time of his death.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Winnie H. Kelly, West Monroe; two sons, Chief Kelly of Monroe and William R. Kelly of New Orleans; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Boyett, Monroe; two half-brothers, Louis Jernigen, Vidor, Texas, and Earl Jernigen, Hornbeck, La.; three sisters, Mrs. Lennie Stark and Mrs. Pearl Wilson, both of Beaumont, Texas, and Mrs. Wealthy Franks, Denver, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be J. E. Darden, Claude Kincaid, James Kincaid, Johnny West, John Blankership and Bruce Willis.
