James Kirksey

Services for James Kirksey, 79, of Lubbock will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2004, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Pastor Bruce Menefee and the Elders of City View Christian Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 18, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Kirksey passed away Friday, July 16, 2004, in Lubbock. He was born on June 20, 1925. He married Gloria Nell Mitchell on Oct. 11, 1947, in Lubbock. James graduated from Early High School in 1942. He was employed by Gifford Hill Pipe Co. and then began farming in the Lubbock area in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of Normandy in the Northern France Campaign. He was in the IV infantry division that landed on Utah Beach. He received the following medals: Combat Infantryman Badge, American Theater Campaign, EAME Campaign with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct, Purple Heart, and the World War II Victory medal. His named has been honored at the Lubbock Area War Memorial.

James had many different roles in the church from Sunday school teacher to Deacon at First Foursquare Church. The last four years he was a member of City View Christian Fellowship. He was known for his great sense of humor and found great joy in helping people in their time of need. His grandchildren recall the legacy of honor and integrity he instilled in them.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Nell Kirksey; a son, Gary Kirksey and wife Marsha, all of Lubbock; two grandchildren, James Douglas Kirksey and Jennie Delight Kirksey; and one sister, Fern Kirksey of Temple.
