Mr James Caraway Lilly
(August 5, 1913 - November 9, 2008)

James Caraway Lilly, 95, of Little Rock went to be with the Lord on Sunday November 9, 2008. He was born August 5, 1913, in Osceola, Ark., to Orley R. and Minnie Forbes Lilly. He was a graduate of Arkansas State University where he excelled in football. He served as a 1st Lt. in the US Army during WWII, primarily in Leyte in the Philippines, with the Infantry. He was a homebuilder for Rector Phillips Morse for 27 years and was on the board of the Homebuilders Association of Greater Little Rock and received the Golden Spike award. He held several offices in both local and national professional homebuilding organizations. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Little Rock. Previously, he was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Gadsden, Alabama, a Sunday school teacher, and a Scoutmaster. He enjoyed his membership in several stamp and coin collection clubs. He raised beautiful vegetables and flowers in his garden. He loved to travel, and he and his wife enjoyed many wonderful trips overseas together. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was cherished by his family. We will be comforted by our treasured memories of him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his adored wife of 64 years, Mary Lou Byrd Lilly; his sister Dorothy Lilly Stuttle; his brothers Orley Lilly, Charles Lilly, and Gene Lilly.

Survivors include his son James C. Lilly Jr. (Sharon) of Richmond, VA; his daughters Mary Lou Chaney (John) of Little Rock, Becky Seay (Buddy) of Vestavia Hills, AL; his grandchildren Elizabeth McLaughlin (Scott) of Richmond, VA, Mather Chaney (Samantha) of Little Rock, and Woodson and Lilly Seay of Vestavia Hills, AL; his great grandson Jackson McLaughlin of Richmond, VA, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family extends their appreciation to the staff of Briarwood Nursing Center and Odyssey Health Care for their kind and loving care.

Family visitation will be at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Funeral Home, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Tuesday November 11, 2008 at 1:00 PM, with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM. There will be a private burial at Roselawn Memorial Park, Little Rock.
