James Carl Barefield
Funeral service for Carl Barefield, age 76 of Baskin, will be held at 2 PM Thursday, March 13, 2014 in the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Rev. Marion Collier officiating. Interment will follow in South Central Cemetery in Wisner. Visitation will be Thursday from 12 noon until time of service at the funeral home.
He was born to the union of Robert Myles and Johnnie Mae McDaniel Barefield on January 13, 1938 in Wisner and passed from this life Monday, March 10, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Barefield was a U.S. Army Veteran and was member of the Baptist faith. He worked many years in the electrical utilities business and in construction. He was involved in an electrical accident in Winnsboro, in the late 1960s, while working for W.S. Young Highline Company. That accident caused a major power outage for the city of Winnsboro, and it caused serious injuries to Mr. Barefield, which took a great deal of time to recover. After his recovery, he was a dump truck owner and operator. In his latter years he owned waste pickup and disposal company.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Carolyn Evans Barefield; son Zach Barefield; and sister Mamie Tumlison.
Mr. Barefield is survived by three daughters Carla Lee Barefield of CA, Carlon Barefield of West Monroe, and Brittany Barefield Mayer of MO; five brothers Russell Barefield of Baskin, Robert Barefield and Raymond Barefield of Troup, TX, J. B. Barefield of Jigger and George Barefield of West Monroe; four sisters Emma Glasscock of Jonesboro-Hodge, Lottie Corbin of Monroe, Betty Peterson of Jackson, LA, and Lynn Newman of Monroe; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Barefield, Michael Barefield, Wayne Barefield, Josh McIntyre, James Ray Peterson and Pete Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Leon McIntyre and D. D. Smith.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to TLC Hospice for the tender care of Carl during his illness.
