James Carl “Jim” Randall Sr.

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- James Carl “Jim” Randall, Sr., of Bossier City, LA passed away on July 13, 2010 in Bossier City, LA. He was born November 7, 1943 at Hotel Dieu, (now University Hospital) New Orleans.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, July 16, 2010 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA. Graveside Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Mount Zion Cemetery, Calhoun, LA with Rev. Mark Fenn officiating. Family Visitation with Northwest LA friends will be 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday, July 18, 2010 in Bossier City, LA.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Annee Heard and Veron Alton “Bill” Randall, originally from Catahoula Parish, LA.

Surviving Jim is his wife of 44 years, Brenda Custer Randall, sons, James C. “Jim” Randall of San Jose, CA, and Michael S. “Mike” Randall and wife, Sharlet of Benton LA. He is also survived by his brother, John S. “Steve” Randall and wife, Irma of West Monroe, LA, as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Jim lived during his early years in West Monroe and Delhi, LA. The family moved back to West Monroe, where he attended Highland Elementary, West Monroe Junior High and graduated in 1961 from West Monroe High School. Football was a huge part of life for “Jimmy” and his family.

Jim graduated from Northeast LA University with a degree in commercial art, where he designed the Northeast Indian artwork for one of the first student directories. He served with U.S. Army, mainly at a military intelligence school in Okinawa, where his wife Brenda was able to join him.

He retired as a petroleum land man in East Texas due to health problems, having spent some 20 years in the oil/gas, right of way and fiber optic business. He was formerly co-owner of Randall Brothers Investigations. He worked with Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, Federal BNDD/DEA and Ruston Police Department. He was the first police inspector in Louisiana.

Jim developed a love for guns and hunting early in life. He was an amateur gunsmith and an expert marksman, having won countless awards and recognition for his abilities. He competed individually and with his wife and sons, and participated in numerous aspects of recreational shooting including Cowboy competitions.

He enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors, especially in the mountains of Colorado. He was a great storyteller with the ability to recall minute details of his many adventures and the vast events that made up his interesting and fulfilling life. He was patriotic, loyal, honorable, honest and a Southern Baptist.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to NRA Whittington Center, P.O. Box 700, Raton, NM 87740, in his name or to a charity of the donor's choice.

The family wishes to thank Drs. Chip McDonald and Tony Stuart and their staffs, the ER Departments of W-K/North and W-K/Bossier, W-K/Hospice, plus the many friends and co-workers who helped Jim and his family through his courageous battle with recurring non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and subsequent complications.
