James Chester Cormier
Funeral services for James Chester Cormier will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005 in the chapel of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie with the Revs. Jackie Hightower, Billy Tingle and Robert Hearne officiating. Burial will be in Griffin Hills Cemetery, Lone Pine under direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.
Mr. Cormier, age 65, passed away in his residence after a long battle with cancer on Sunday, April 24, 2005. He was a retired US Postal Service mail carrier and was also a retired farmer. He enjoyed fishing and playing his accordion in his Cajun band, “Chester Cormier and the Bayou Cajun Boys.” He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Cormier and his grandmother Lydia Blanchard.
He is survived by his mother Lulan B. Cormier of Bunkie; his fiancee Bessie Alwell of Effie; his son Chris Cormier and wife Danette of Lone Pine; two daughters, Melinda Rasmussen and husband Floyd of Lone Pine and Marcia Tingle and husband Billy of Bunkie; one brother Steve Cormier of Alexandria; one sister, Betty Ducote of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Brad Cormier, Daniel Cormier, Adam Cormier, Timothy Albright, Joey Guillory, Dr. Carl Churchman, Jr. and Shane Ducote. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Hebert, Jim Kerry and Allen West.
Visitation will be at Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Monday and 8 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Online condolences may be e-mailed to the family at MelanconFuneral@aol.com.
