James D. ``J.D.'' Robertson

James D. ``J.D.'' Robertson, 87, retired owner/operator of a sawmill, died January 26, 2009, in Tallahassee, Florida. The service will be at 2 p.m. EST Friday, January 30, at the Abbey-Riposta Funeral Home Chapel (850-562-1518). Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Havana. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Robertson entered into rest in Crawfordville, Florida. He was born November 14, 1921, to the now-late J. Henry and Nannie Robertson in Alabama.

He is survived by the love his life, Dolores, his wife of 64 years.

J.D., as he was commonly known to many, was self-employed and in the timber business. J.D. was well-known for his unique sawmill design. He would log and saw the large timber at his sawmill, then haul the timber to be used in building large shrimp boats. He also shipped large timber keels to New York, Japan and all over Florida. He was known for his wit, joking style and, never met a stranger. He loved providing for his family, going fishing, camping in North Carolina and to be around family and friends.

He will be missed by many, but the memories will never be forgotten. Other survivors include his daughters, Sherry Griffin (and husband Len) of Blountstown, Fla., and Wanda Nichols (and husband Ernest) of Crawfordville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth McCrory, and a brother, John Robertson.
