James D Sheffield, Sr.
Funeral services for James D. Sheffield, Sr., 84, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Gary Forrest and Blake Powers officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Sheffield was born May 24, 1931 in Ballenger, Texas to the late Oliver and Minnie Eva (Allen) Sheffield, and died Monday, March 14, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mr. Sheffield had resided in Lufkin for over 60 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1955. He retired from Texas State Optical after 41 years. Mr. Sheffield enjoyed working in his yard, growing roses, and woodworking. He loved his family. Mr. Sheffield was a Deacon at Parkview Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Sheffield of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Rayford Dodd of Paris and Michele and Dennis Hendry of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Judy Sheffield of Lufkin; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Mike Thigpen of Pollok; grandchildren, Monica Richardson, Bryan Ezzell, Courtney Thomas, Tamesha Hendry, Ashley Landry, Kristin Bridges, Jessica Clark, Sydney Sheffield, and Reagan Sheffield; step-grandchildren, Brittney Wade, Amanda Anthony, Ashley Allen, Emily Finegan, and Taylor Thigpen; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Eckerd of Macon, Georgia; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years, Claudine Sheffield; and sisters, Mae Fry and Jeanette Yeargan.
Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Parkview Baptist Church, Mike Thigpen, and Gayland Rushing.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
