James Edward Walker
(December 12, 1929 - April 24, 2013)

James Edward Walker, 83, of Rose Hill, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Lakeside Living Center in Quitman.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Newton County Funeral Home North Chapel with Bro. Marty Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. - 8 P.M. on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the funeral home.

Newton County Funeral Home North, 9998 Hwy. 15 North, Newton, is in charge of arrangements 601-635-3200.

Mr. Walker was born near Hickory and graduated from Hickory High School, and married his high school sweetheart. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict period. He was a lifetime machinist, working at Vickers, Inc., and Delco Remy, respectively. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He loved his land, his fish, purple martins, honey bees, tractors, and gardening. Where he now resides, may the fishing always be good, the purple martins sing year round, scalding black coffee flows freely, chocolate and sugar cookies, and many loaves of “Mrs. Polly's” pound cakes grow on trees, and peace abounds.

Survivors Include his wife of 59 years: Sarah Polly Harris Walker of Rose Hill; two sons: William Edward “Billy” Walker, and his wife, Melinda of Newton and Jimmy Allen Walker, and his wife, Debbie, of Collins; one daughter: Hedy Walker Bishop, and her husband, Jim of Gulfport; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Alton Walker, and his wife, Shelby of Georgia and Dan Walker of Newton; one sister: Ouida Powell, and her husband, Walter of Enterprise several nieces and nephews; several great-nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents: Bingham Columbus and Allie Gay Little Walker sister: Anita Mae Walker

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
