James Eugene Hubbard
James Eugene Hubbard, 83, of Winnfield, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 after a short battle with cardiovascular disease.
Eugene was born in Sikes, Louisiana at home on the old Parker homeplace to Etta and Sam Hubbard on January 25, 1934. He grew up around Winn Parish and later his career journey took him to south Texas, central Washington state, southern California, and the northern New Mexico mountains. However, a man passionate about the forest products and timber industry, he spent the majority of his career as a logging contractor. He had an analytical mind with the ability to imagine, design, and build almost anything someone needed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jean, in 2012.
He is survived by his son, Byron (Dewana), of Winnfield, and Lowell (Debra), of Winnfield; daughter, Candace Gray (Robert), of Sapulpa, OK; four grandchildren, Holly Newton (Nathan), of Hodge, Melinda Hubbard, of Winnfield, Lathon Hubbard (Krystal), of Winnfield, and Andrew Gray, of Sapulpa, OK; three great grandchildren, Josie, Brendan, and Luke; siblings, Percy Hubbard of Bossier City, Bubba Hubbard of Winnfield, Virginia Smith of Winnfield and Tommy Hubbard of Crockett, TX.
The family will receive visitors at The Family Church in Winnfield on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and also on Friday, June 16, from 1:00 PM until time of services.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 16, at The Family Church with the Reverends Joel Hines, Clay Hutto, and H.W. Smith officiating.
Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Brent Hubbard, Jerry Hubbard, Nathan Newton, Terry Young, Jimmy Thompson, Gary Hubbard, Taylor Jordan, and Tony Oehler. Honorary pallbearers are Jay Yarboro and Tim Yarboro.
