JAMES F. EMMONS

James F. Emmons, 71, of Longview, left this earthly life Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) to eternally be with his Lord and Savior.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Mobberly Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Zackary and Dr. Charles Barham officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

James was born in Shreveport, La., on May 19, 1937, to Seth and Lesta Mullenex Emmons. A former resident of Kilgore and long-time Longview resident, James was employed as a letter carrier for 45-plus years with the U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 2000. James served honorably for six years with the U.S. Navy. He was an active member of Mobberly Baptist Church, where he served as a prayer intercessor for 10 years. He also served as a volunteer chaplain at Good Shepherd Medical Center from 2001 to 2006.

James is survived by his wife, Judy, of Longview; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark T. and Edna Emmons of Colorado; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and John Sustaita of Longview; daughter, Jamie Dunham of Dallas; a sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Joe Didier of Baton Rouge, La.; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Oree Williams.

The family requests that memorials be made to the ALS Association, MDA-WEB, P.O. Box 78960 in Phoenix, Arizona 85062-8960 or to the Mobberly Baptist Church Building Fund.
