SON CHARGED IN SLAYING

Neshoba Youth Faces Murder Count in Connection With Dad's Death

PHILADELPHIA, June 26 -- An affidavit charging murder in the death of his father was made out against Alvin Savell, 18, Neshoba countian, today and were signed by County Attorney S. B. Cooper, according to county officials.

The murder charge, it was understood, came shortly after Mrs. Frank Savell, wife of the dead man and mother of the accused youth, had made a statement concerning the affray in which Savell was cut. The elder Savell was brought to the hospital here and was not considered to be in a serious condition until gangrene set in, causing his death.

According to county officials who took Mrs. Savell's statement, she said both men had been drinking when they came home Saturday night. The younger man collapsed on the front porch of the home, the statement read, and the father, becoming “disgusted” at the son's condition, kicked him.

This roused young Savell and he is said to have told his father if he was kicked again he would "cut somebody to pieces." However, the elder man refused to heed the warning, according to the statement, and kicked Alvin again.

It was then the younger man cut his father in the leg, Mrs. Savell told county officials.

The wound was not considered necessarily serious until the gangrenous condition set in, and the man died.

The affidavit charging murder was signed late this afternoon, officials said.
