James H. Brown
September 2, 1930 - February 25, 2013

James H. Brown, 82 of Colmesneil, passed away February 25, 2013 at his home of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, March 1, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, Colmesneil, with Brother Doyle Cowart and Brother Walter McAlpin officiating. Burial will be in Colmesneil Cemetery with pallbearers Steve Brown, Chris Davis, Randy Gardner, Mike Marshall, Tim Brown and Kirk Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Bess, J.P. Dean, Colt Edwards, Bobby Mann, Lesley Owens, Keith Barnes, and Wade Skinner.

Visitation at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home, Woodville, will be Thursday, February 28, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

James was born September 2, 1930, to H.P. Brown and Iva Butler Brown in the Acall Community, a part of North Colmesneil. He was proud to be a graduate of the CHS Class of 1947 where he was known as Candy Brown and was a competitive player of basketball, football, and baseball.

A lifelong citizen of Colmesneil, James was a member of First Baptist Church, Colmesneil Yellow Pine Masonic Lodge #679, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He felt privileged to serve a number of years on The Tyler County Hospital and First State Bank Boards. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was always grateful to live in a free United States where he displayed the United States and Texas flags in his yard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Iva Brown, and an infant sister, Eloise.

James' survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Jackie; sons, Tim Brown and wife Terri and Kirk Brown, all of Colmesneil; granddaughters, Jessica Brown of Orange, Abby & Jake Shaver of Los Angeles, California, and Leslie Smith of Orangefield; great grandchildren, Grayson, Hayden, Kendyl, Korbin, Kacey, and Caitlyn; brothers, Kenneth Brown & wife Joyce, Travis Brown & wife Evone, all of Colmesneil; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and lifelong friend, J.P. Dean.

The family sincerely appreciates the visits, cards and prayers from so many friends and relatives and the special attention and professional care of the Family Clinic Doctors and Nurses of Tyler County Hospital of Woodville and the Memorial Specialty Hospital Doctors and Nurses, 6th Floor of Lufkin, and 1st Quality Hospice of Woodville.
