Funeral services for James ``Jim'' H. Aarons, 55 of Vinton, will be at 2 pm. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at the First Baptist Church of Vinton.
Revs. Bill Holifield, Charles Miller, Tony Thornton, Dale Tatum and Al Perry will officiate. Burial will be in the Nibletts Bluff Cemetery in Vinton, under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton.
Aarons died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 in the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Visitation hours will be at the Vinton First Baptist Church, 1401 Center St. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. and on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 from 10 a.m. until service time.
Aarons was born in Jonesville on January 18, 1948 to Pete and Viva Aarons.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vinton where he taught Sunday School.
He was 1965 graduate of Vidalia High School. After graduation, he attended Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1971.
While attending Northeast Louisiana University, he received an Athletic Scholarship and played on the defensive line and was selected to the All-Conference team.
He received his Master of Education in 1975 at Northeast Louisiana University and an additional Post Graduate Degree in 1986 from Lamar University.
His 30 years teaching and coaching career included Lousiana and Texas Schools: serving 20 years at Bridge City High School, retiring as principal in 2001.
He taught Social Studies and was a coach at the Vinton High School from 2001 - 2002 and was currently the Assistant Principal at Vinton Middle School.
Mr. Aarons professional memberships included the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, National Association of Secondary School Principals, Association of Secondary Curriculum and Development and Parent Teacher Association.
A special thank you to all of his friends, family and church family for their support and prayers during this difficult time. Also, a very special thank you to the staff and physicians at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Okla.
Survivors include his wife, Rosetta Wilson Aarons of Vinton; his mother, Viva Aarons of Vidalia; four daughters, Marley Aarons of Tupelo, Miss., Mrs. Shane (Tammy) Droddy of Groves, TX, Mrs. Corey (Jamie) Gauthier of Bridge City, TX and Mrs. Drew (Jessica) Merritt of Round Rock, TX; two sisters, Mrs. Edwin (JoAnn) Beach of Vidalia, LA and Judy Aarons of Vidalia, LA; one brother and his wife, Douglas and Vivian Aarons of Vidalia; and five grandchildren, Richie Droddy, Dalton Droddy, Jacie Droddy, Kylee Droddy, and Caleb Merritt.
He is preceded in death by his father Peter Arrons [sic Aarons] and a sister, Dessa Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Burch, Tim Conner, Mike Faulk, Larry Johnson, Tommy Lanius, Lawrence J. LeBlanc, Robert Plagens and Steve Sanders.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Vinton First Baptist Church.
