Funeral Rites Held For J. I. Mecom
Funeral services for J. I. Mecom were held May 23 in the First Baptist Church, with Rev. L. R. Pendley officiating.
He was born November 11, 1879 in Columbia, LA and came to Dickens County on April 12, 1912. He has resided in the Spur community since that time.
On October 18, 1908, in Seymour, TX, he was married to Miss Cassie Long and they made their first home in Bomerton, TX.
Mr. Mecom was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include Mrs. Mecom; two sons, Hardy of New Orleans, LA and J. I. of San Clemento Island, CA, three daughters, Mrs. Rita Bell of Spur, Mrs. Nell Estes of Rule and Mrs. Forestine Ripple of Dumas, two brothers, Dr. Lonnie Mecom of Ruston, LA and Phillip H. Mecom of Shreveport, LA, one sister, Mrs. Maude Culpepper of Monroe, LA and eleven grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were Mr. Mecom's Sunday School Class.
Burial was in the Spur Cemetery directed by Campbell Funeral Home.
