James L. ``John'' Cannon

Funeral services for James Louis ``John'' Cannon, 78, of Rayville, LA were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at the Mangham Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Huey Bradford officiating. Burial followed in the Gwin Cemetery, under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Homes of Rayville.

Mr. Cannon died June 18,2001 at the North Monroe Hospital in Monroe. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Richland Parish Police Jury for nearly 30 years and was a United States Army World War II veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Aaron Cannon and Cora Belle Royals Cannon, and by three brothers, J.A.Cannon, Alton Cannon and Chrissler Cannon.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Gilly Cannon of Rayville, LA; his daughters, Vonda S. Cannon of Rayville,LA and Debra Stapp and her husband, Calvin of Rayville; his sons, James R. Cannon and his wife Carolyn, of Rayville, Alvin R. ``Johnny'' Cannon and his wife, Mary, of Rayville and Charles A. ``Chuck'' Cannon of Rayville; three sisters, Gustie Gilley of Swartz,LA, Lucy Deere of Monroe, LA and Betty Howard of Columbia, LA; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Serving as pallbearers were Byron Chappel, Tony Cannon, Sammy Lee Jr., Jay Youngblood, Charles Stapp, and Robert Louis Boughton. The Honorary pallbearer was Littleton ``Lit'' Carroll.
