James M. Barrow

RAGLEY -- James M. Barrow, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, in the DeQuincy hospital.

A devoted family man, he was a former contractor of Newport Industries of DeQuincy and Oakdale, working in stumping, logging and turpentine over the years. He was a farmer and cattleman who was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He was a lifetime resident of the rural Beauregard-Cowpen Creek area. He was a member of Kernan/Faith Baptist Church of Ragley. He was owner-operator of Eastside Conoco Service Station of DeQuincy for a number of years and was a local mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Lettie Agnes Cooley Barrow of Ragley; eight sons, Franklin, Monard, Roland, Donald, Max and Steve Barrow, all of Ragley, Gayland Barrow of DeQuincy and Bobby Barrow of Longville; four daughters, Sandra Grant of Ragley, Linda Janney of Walker, Carol Edwards of Ponchatoula and Lila Young of DeQuincy; three sisters, Pat VanWinkle of DeQuincy, Eva McQueen of Carmine, Texas, and Ruth White of Lufkin, Texas; 39 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Francis and Annie Elizabeth Barrow; two sons, Timmy Lee and Lonnie Charles Barrow; and two grandchildren, Terry Lee and Bryan Anthony Barrow.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 23, in Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy. The Rev. Dan Perego will officiate. Burial will be in Hagar Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. in the funeral home.
