James Marion Goodwin, Sr.
Funeral for James Marion Goodwin, Sr. will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 30,2010, at Newton County Funeral Home - South with the Rev. Ed Saunders and Rev. Ken McLemore officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Cemetery. Newton County Funeral Home South, 100 Old Highway 15 Loop, Newton, is in charge of arrangements. (601-683-2152)
Mr. Goodwin, 80, of Newton, died Monday, September 27, 2010 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. He loved being with his family. He coached his son in sports and his daughters in softball. While his children were in high school he carried the chain during football games. He loved being with his grandchildren and watching them participate in activities. He enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He was voted man of the year for the city of Newton and also served as President of the Little League program for the city of Newton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John Sharpe & Aline Kelly Goodwin; his sister: Doris Richardson; his brother: Teddy Goodwin and his son-in-law: Barry Murphey.
Survivors Include his wife of 58 years: Barbara Cox Goodwin, Newton; his children: Rosie Goodwin Murphey, Brandon; Jimmy Goodwin, and his wife: Susan, Lake; Debbie Goodwin, Newton; Julie Goodwin Rowzee, and her husband: Andy Hickory; Teresa Goodwin Nelson, and her husband: Hollis, Gulfport; his grandchildren: Joshua Murphey; Jason Murphey; Joseph Murphey; Jay Goodwin; Makenzie Rowzee; Orion Nelson; Lauren Nelson; his 5 great grandchildren; his step-grandchildren: Jodi Tyree; Erin Ferguson and Steven Rowzee; his 4 step great-grandchildren; his sisters: Peggy Petty, Lake; and Glenda (Leon) Lewis, Gulfport; his sister-in-law: Darlene Goodwin, Dewitt, NE; his special extended family members: Johnny (Debbie) Coghlan, Newton; Tommy Coghlan, Newton; and Kenny (Linda) Coghlan, Union, MS.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Murphey, Jason Murphey, Joseph Murphey, Jay Goodwin, Orion Nelson, and Steven Rowzee.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Coghlan, Tommy Coghlan, Kenny Coghlan, Jimbo Harvey, Trey Cox, Joey Mitchell, Davy Mitchell, and Shannon Lewis.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to: The American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 29,2010, and from 12:30 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.
