James M. Brown

James Martell Brown, of 1311 Fourth Avenue, died Thursday morning at Hinds General Hospital, after an extended illness. He was a native of Bay Springs, son of the late James Wiley Louisa McBey Brown, and had lived in Jackson most of his life.

Brown was well known in the automobile repair business, having owned and operated the J. M. Brown Garage for a number of years. He was one of the organizers of the Independent Garage Owners Associat[i]on of Jackson and was an officer in the Association.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he attended the H. B. Perritt Sunday School Class, was a member of Pearl Masonic Lolge [sic Lodge] and was a Shriner.

Survivors are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Jack Clements and a granddaughter, Terri Clements, all of Jackson; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Frank Richards, Dallas, Texas and Mrs. Anthony Charvat, of Gretna, La.; five sisters, Mrs. L. A. Denson, of Jackson, Mrs. Lena Street, Hattiesburg, Mr[s]. Lee Jordan and Mrs. W. A. Crosby, both of Laurel and Mrs. Addie Catlett, of Lucedale.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, from Wright & Ferguson Chapel, with Dr. Joe H. Tuten, officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood M[e]morial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Rob Foy, H. L. Dickerson, Jeff Polk, Tony Karlak, Edwin Sansing and Leon Hutson.
