STATE EX-SENATOR JOHNSON SUCCUMBS

SMITHFIELD

James Marvin Johnson Sr. died Saturday.

He was a former state senator and a member of the House of Representatives.

Graveside services with military honors will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Smithfield.

Surviving are his wife Gertrude Brady Johnson; son James ``Jimmy'' M. Johnson Jr. of Smithfield; daughters Betsy Dunnagan of Raleigh and DeLane Armstrong of Ayden; brothers Alsey B. Johnson of Dunn, Lee Johnson of Benson and Dr. Clemuel M. Johnson of Elizabethtown; sisters Pauline Barrett of Purcellville, Va., Edna Bryan of Winston-Salem and Marjorie J. Johnson of Four Oaks; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home.
