James N. Newell
James N. Newell, 58, badly burned on May 3 when fire destroyed the Tropicana Cafeteria Supper Club on Capital Street, died Saturday. Co-owner of the club, he was blown through the front door, his clothing on fire, when an explosion started the blaze.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from Baldwin Funeral Home on Manship with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Survivors include: his widow, Mrs. Vonda Ballengee Newell, Jackson, a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Fritz, Diamond Bar, Calif., his mother, Mrs. Hattie M. McCoy and step-father, I. V. McCoy, both of Jackson; a sister, Mrs. Arthur D. Parker, Eagle Lake; two brothers; W. M. [sic N.] Newell, St. Augustine, Fla., Robert Louis [sic Harmon] Newell, Beverly Hills, Calif., and three grandchildren.
