James Parker Spillers
Funeral services will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 1030 Johnston St., Lafayette, LA, on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. for Mr. James Parker Spillers, Petroleum Consultant and President of Pacific Atlantic Oil Co., who died Monday October 11, 1982 at 5:35 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Lafayette, LA.
Born in Ouachita Parish, LA in 1926, he was a US Marine, a survivor of 1941 attack of Pearl Harbor, he received his BS Degree from the Univ. of N. Carolina, his MS in Geology from LSU. He was a former Graduate Teaching Asst. at LSU and an Associate Professor of Geology at MS Southern Univ. During his career, he has been associated with Aminoil in Kuwait, Gulf Oil Co., Humble Oil & Refining Co., Royal Resources Corp., The Louisiana State Mineral Board, the Atchafalaya Levee Board and was the Author of Many Professional Publications. He compiled “Rules and Regulations for Oil and Gas Exploration and Exploitation” and revised “Title 60 Tennessee Code” which is the enabling law to regulate and govern the exploration and exploitation of Oil and Gas in the state of Tennessee.
He was a Scottish Rite Mason and a Member of Capitol Lodge No. 399, in Baton Rouge, he was a member of Kappa Sigma and Sigma Gamma Epsilon Fraternities. He belonged to the Lafayette Geological Society and was a past President of the New Orleans Geological Society, the American Assoc. of Petroleum Geologists, the American Institute of Professional Geologists, and [in] 1966 was elected a fellow to the Geological Society of America. In addition, Mr. Spillers was a member of the Lafayette Land Man's Assoc. and the American Land Man's Assoc.
He is survived by hhis wife, Gwen, 1 son James B. Spillers of Swartz, LA, 4 daughters Annette, Jennifer, Mrs. Brian (Cissy) Gautreau and Mrs. Jean Y. (Tricia) Poupart all of Lafayette, his mother Mrs. Chris Hemel, of New Orleans, 1 sister Mrs. Earl Bradshaw of Monroe, LA, and 2 grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A Masonic service will be held 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Burial will take place in Monroe Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, LA, at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 1982.
