James Paul Corbett

James Paul Corbett, 82, died Oct. 23, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Mr. Corbett was born in Minneapolis, MN. on Sept. 24, 1924, to the late Charles Eugene Corbett Sr. and Janet Paul Corbett. He was a member of Washburn High School's Class of 1942. Following high school, he served with the 2nd Marine Division during World War II and saw service in the Pacific Theater. While serving with the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines during the Marianas Campaign, he participated in the initial assault of Saipan where he was wounded in action and subsequently awarded the Purple Heart. Following his military service, Mr. Corbett attended Saint Thomas College in Saint Paul, MN., where he received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He was a food sales manager for over 40 years, the first 20 with Green Giant and the last 20 with Crown Prince, and retired on June 30, 1993. Mr. Corbett was an avid golfer and played most recently with the Oklahoma City Metro Seniors. He also was a great historian, a constant reader and loved to watch all forms of sporting events. He regularly attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond, OK and was very thankful to have his second marriage blessed recently by Father VanderLey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Mary Corbett Kunz of Minneapolis. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Beverly Querry Corbett of Oklahoma City; eight children and their families: Sons Thomas B. Corbett of Woodbridge, VA, James Paul Corbett Jr. of Cleveland, OH, Charles E. Corbett III, of Jupiter, FL, Ronald B. Querry of Las Vegas, NM and Christopher L. Querry of OKC; Daughters: Nancy Corbett Cofer of Altus, OK, Patricia Corbett Bockman of Plainfield, IL and Ann Querry Cooper, of OKC; an older brother, Charles E. Corbett Jr. and his family, of Minneapolis; plus numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his first wife, Dorothy Butcher Kosower of Jupiter, Fl.

The family will receive friends at Yanda & Son Funeral Home, 1500 W. Vandament, Yukon, OK, on Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 6-8pm. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 on Friday, October 27, 2006 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, at 9th and Blvd. in Edmond with interment at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Lawton (Elgin), OK. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
