Rites Will Be Thursday For J. P. Heard
Funeral services for James Preston Heard, 55, of 700 Sixth St., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hixson Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. Charles I. McIlveene, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with Masonic rites.
Mr. Heard died at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday in a local hospital after a long illness. The body is at the funeral home, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today.
He, along with Tommy Pallet of Maplewood, headed the Connie Mack Baseball League in 1959.
He was a native of Gueydan and lived in Lake Charles 40 years. He was formerly associated with the Lake Charles Lakers baseball team in a business capacity, was employed by Industrial Contractors at one time and operated a service station for several years.
He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Leona David Heard; a foster son, Bill Boyette of Lakeland, Fla., and three sisters, Mrs. Lois Lyons, Irene Heard and Mrs. W. T. Vincent, all of Lake Charles.
Pallbearers will be Tuerling LaFleur Jr., Warren Francis David, Lambert Austin Jr., Dr. Ronald LaFleur, Ronald Gene David and Michael Austin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. T. H. DeLaureal, Archie Lemke, George White, Ed Khoury, Sam M. Tarleton Jr. and Charles Costanza.
