James R. Dickerson
LISBON, LA -- James R. Dickerson, a lifelong resident of Lisbon, Louisiana passed away on December 23, 2011 following a brief illness at the age of 91. James was born on June 21, 1920, in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, the younger of two sons born to G.B. and Bessie Dickerson of Smackover, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, L.V., and his wife of 54 years, Faye Copeland Dickerson.
James served in the Army in WWII for three years in the Pacific Theater. Upon returning from the service he worked in the oilfield and later for Claiborne Gasoline Plant, retiring in 1987 with 40 years of service. He continued working in the oilfield as an independent service contractor until 1998.
James was a lifelong member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church, the Men's Sunday School Class and he also sang in the choir until a few years ago. He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life and after retirement could be found almost every day on Lake Claiborne, fishing with his wife, Faye, when the wind was not too strong or the rainfall too great, regardless of the temperature. James and Faye loved to cook the fish they caught and were constantly hosting fish fries for family and friends at the camp on the lake until Faye's death in January 2000.
James is survived by two sons; J. Rodney Dickerson and wife, Jan, of Homer, and Gary R. Dickerson and wife Jackie, of Bernice. Three grandchildren; Brandy Gunsolus and husband, Chris, of Bossier City with great grandsons Zachary and Christopher; Craig Dickerson, of Ruston; Christi Boone and great granddaughter, Elli, of Ruston; Step-grandson Steven Poulan and wife, Pam, with children Devon, Kelsey and Landon; Step-granddaughter Tammy Cole and husband, Chuck, with children Emily, Brittony and Kassie. James will be greatly missed by his many friends, especially Peggy McAdams, who filled his life after Faye's passing.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Rocky Springs Baptist Church in Lisbon on Tuesday, December 27th and on Wednesday the 28th at 10:00 AM, with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM followed by interment at Rocky Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. All services will be lead by Reverends Larry Sellers and Rusty Gilbert, and under the direction of Rose Neath Funeral Home, 405 E. 5th St., Homer, LA 71040.
Pallbearers are Joe Richardson, Floyd Burns, Tommy Gaston, James Edward Scriber, David Stephens and Sonny Greeson, with honorary pallbearers the Men's Sunday School Class.
The family asks that memorials be made directly to the Rocky Springs Baptist Church Cemetery fund.
