James Sumner

CENTREVILLE -- James Sumner, 85, of West Blocton, died May 22, 1994, at Bessemer Carraway Methodist Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rockco Funeral Home in Centreville. The Rev. Charles Payne, the Rev. Milton Simpson and the Rev. Bennie Corley will officiate with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in West Blocton.

He was a retired carpenter and a deacon of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rasie Mae Hayes Sumner, West Blocton; four daughters, Norma Jean Baisden, Pensacola, Joyce Morrow and Shirley McCart, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and Nancy Pope, Columbus, Ga.; two sons, James A. Sumner, West Blocton, and Max Sumner, Dallas, Texas; a brother, Walton A. Sumner, Birmingham; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
