James “Son” Tumlison
Mr. James “Son” Tumlison, 85, of Mabelvale died Friday, March 14, 2003, at his residence in the Sardis community outside Mabelvale. A native of St. Louis, MO, and a resident of the Sardis community for the last 16 years and a former resident of Hamburg, he was a quality control inspector for NASA until retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Sardis United Methodist Church in Bauxite, a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps, and an avid golfer and square dancer and loved to go camping. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Emma Vieth Tumlison, and a sister.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Mamie Lee Barfield Tumlison of Mabelvale; two sons, Ed Tumlinson of Montgomery, AL, and John Tumlison of Pensacola, FL; four stepsons, Pat Diamond of Dallas, TX, Bobby Diamond of Killeen, TX, David Diamond of Baton Rouge, LA, and Steve Diamond of Fort Worth, TX; two brothers, Alfred “Dude” Tumlison of Hamburg and James “Jim” Tumlison of Clinton; two sisters, Mildred Pamplin of Portland and Nellie High of Biloxi, MS; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, March 17, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home chapel in Hamburg with Rev. Jeff Jones officiating. Pallbearers were Steve and David Diamond, Eddie Mills, Gary and James Tumlison and Doyle Sivils. Burial followed services at the Pinewood Memorial Park.
