J. W. Hawthorne of Georgetown Dies of Pistol Wounds

James W. Hawthorne, 43, of Georgetown, La., died yesterday afternoon in the Baptist Hospital here from pistol wounds which he is said to have received early Sunday in an altercation with Louis White, 25, of Rochelle, La., who died on Wednesday.

The men, according to Grant parish authorities, shot each other in front of a saloon between Georgetown and Rochelle. The cause of the shooting was not determined by an investigation of D. L. Brunson, Grant deputy.

Hawthorne was shot five times and his lungs were penetrated and two bullets took effect in his abdomen. He had been in the hospital since Sunday. Several blood transfusions were given him in an effort to save his life.

He is survived by his wife; one son, J. J. Hawthorne, who is in the U. S. Navy; one daughter, Mrs. Effie Simmons, Zwolle, La.; two brothers, Dan [sic Ben] and Bob Hawthorne, Georgetown; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel McWhorter who lives in Texas and Mrs. Emily Meilcim [sic Mullican], Bastrop, La.

Funeral services were tentatively set for Saturday at Georgetown with interment under the direction of the Kelly Funeral Home.
