James W. Sturgis

Aug. 9, 1922 - July 11, 2000

Services for James W. Sturgis, 77, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. today at Parkview Church of God with the Rev. Don Slider officiating.

Burial will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mr. Sturgis was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Adams County, the son of James Gayle and Decie Mae Crum Sturgis.

He was a member of Parkview Church of God, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from International Paper Company after 34 years of service. He was a licensed commercial airplane pilot and after his retirement from International Paper he was employed by Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Sturgis was preceded in death by his wife, Donnis Sturgis; a daughter, Beverly Sturgis; and a brother, Clayton Sturgis.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Sturgis; a grandson, John Procell Jr.; a granddaughter, Candace Procell; a great-grandson, Timothy Mangham, all of Castor, La.; and two brothers and their wives, Lerland G. and Bernice Sturgis of Natchez and Homer J. and Annie Mae Sturgis of Clayton, La.; and Eva Willard of Vidalia, La.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Varnado, Jerry Kimball, Larry White, Bill Hinson, David Ola and Ken Emsminger.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Bringol, L.W. Wilkerson, Emmett Keating, Paul Sumrall, Earl Buford and all other fellow International Paper workers.
