James W. Driskill
Services for James Woodard Driskill were held Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the Arcadia Church of Christ. Burial followed at Driskill Mountain Cemetery. “Woodard”, as fondly remembered, was born in Bienville Parish, Louisiana on March 9, 1936, and was welcomed into God's Kingdom on January 16, 2009 at Lincoln General Hospital at the age of 72 years.
He was born at home to parents Herman “Red” Elzie Driskill, and Josie Mae (Black) Driskill. He served in the Army during the Korean War as a scout and forward observer. He was currently self-employed. Many miles passed through his eyes over the fifty plus years he spent as a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nina Eugina (Driskill) Nixon, and son Richard Wade Driskill.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mavis Lee Driskill, son Joseph Alan Amparan and wife Mona of Ruston, LA, daughters, Jamie Welch and husband Jarrod of Simsboro, LA, Rhonda Driskill of Gardner, MA, Dorinda Nyegaard and husband Willie of Simsboro, LA, Grace Moreaux and husband Todd of Bienville, LA and Michele Reyes and husband Richard of Fort Polk, LA and by two brothers, Carrol Wade Driskill of Simsboro, LA and David Driskill of Arcadia, LA. At the time of his death he had 18 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews, which he truly loved.
Pallbearers will include his five grandsons, Jeremy Smith of Bienville, LA, Zack Fruge of Fort Polk, LA, Dustyn Bell of Ruston, LA, Ryan Colvin of Summerfield, LA, Taylor Smith of Bienville, LA, and a special “adopted” son, Jeremiah King of Lake Bisteneau, LA.
Honorary pallbearers include his family members and friends who are very close to his heart, Carrol Driskill, David Driskill, Richard Nixon, Robert Pousson, Lawrence Warwick and Curtis Bowman.
