Jamie Roberts

NEW ALBANY -- James L. “Jamie” Roberts, 89, died Monday, April 16, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. He was born May 23, 1917, in Union County to the late John Luther Roberts and Ila Griffith Roberts. He was a retired service tech for Commercial Equipment Company. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army's 3rd Armored Division Spearhead. He was a Baptist and a member of American Legion Post No. 72 in New Albany.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at United Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Rank Boyte officiating. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Adair (Harold) of Tupelo; five sons, Allen Roberts, Lance Roberts (Elaine), Mitchell Roberts (Nora) and David Roberts (Debra), all of New Albany, and Glen Roberts (Pat) of Tupelo; one sister, Mary Etta Green of Tupelo; one brother, Joe R. Roberts of New Albany; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esna Faye Roberts; and a brother, Doug Roberts.

Pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Post No. 72. Honorary pallbearers will be all his grandsons.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to American Legion Post No. 72.
