Jane Delony
November 18, 1919 - March 6, 2013

Jane Chadwell Delony, age 93, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on March 6, 2013. She is survived by her daughters, Patty Litton Delony of Chicago, Illinois, and Frances Riley Delony of Sparta, Tennessee; cousins Becky Wasson Watts of Greenville, Mississippi, and Peggy Lechleiter Nichols of Burns, Tennessee; and special friend Carol Bone, Pleasant View, Tennessee. Jane was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Chase Delony, who passed away in 1993 and her sister Patty Litton Chadwell, who passed away in 2012.

Jane was the daughter of Robert and Lillian Anderson Chadwell and a great granddaughter of Isaac Litton. A graduate of Peabody Demonstration School, Jane graduated from Ward-Belmont in 1939 and Vanderbilt University in 1941. At Vanderbilt she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta fraternity, and she remained involved with the fraternity on local and national levels throughout her life, serving as Alumnae District President, State Chairman, and Permanent Alumnae Secretary for over 40 years. In 2013, Jane Delony was named the first recipient of the Theta for a Lifetime Award given by the Nashville Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta for her many years of service both to the Fraternity and to the Nashville Alumnae Chapter. In addition, the chapter established a named grant in her honor at the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation.

Jane was a member of the Centennial Club, the Junior League of Nashville, the Board of Trustees of the West End Home for Ladies Auxiliary and was active in many events at The Harpeth Hall School. She was a member of West End United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school with her sister, Patty Chadwell, for more than 60 years and served as treasurer of the church's women's society for many years.

Jane and Patty were among the first residents of Richland Place, where they lived in apartments next to each other. In January 2013 she was the first recipient of the Lifetime Service award, presented by Richland Place for her dedicated service. Jane loved flowers and spent many happy hours in her garden and arranging flowers for Richland Place. She enjoyed playing golf and tennis and water skied into her 90s. An enthusiastic traveler, she attended the dedication of a submarine and visited the Grand Canyon in the last year. She was featured prominently in a music video for Alan Jackson's song Good Time. She embraced technology with enthusiasm: she used a computer since 1985 and recently added a smart phone and iPad to her arsenal. Jane loved life and people. She was always ready to make new friends, visit with old ones, and help people make connections with great joy.
