JANELLE ELIZABETH KEY

Janelle Elizabeth Key, 62, of Gulf Shores, Alabama, died Sunday, January 24, 1999 in a local hospital following an heroic battle with cancer.

Janelle was born in Meridian, MS on February 27, 1936 and resided in Pensacola, FL for 30 years. She was employed as the secretary to the commanding officer of the Naval Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory at Pensacola Naval Air Station; retiring in 1994. She was a member of Shadowlawn Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.W. Smith of Mobile, AL, preceded Mrs. Key in death. Janelle's spiritual strength, coupled with her friendliness and outgoing, positive attitude throughout her life, rewarded her with many gracious and caring friends who provided a source of continuous support in her lenghty [sic lengthy] battle with cancer.

Janelle is survived by her husband of 47 years, Patrick E. Key, Sr.; one daughter, Terry E. Moore of Burlington, NC; two sons, Patrick E. Key, Jr. of Newport, NC and Dennis J. Key of Pensacola; two brothers, Major William A. Smith, retired USAF, and Jerry T. Smith, both of Pensacola; one sister, Darlene Kay Everett of Mobile, AL; and two grandchildren, Melissa and Daniel Teague of Burlington, NC.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 1999 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Dale Patterson officiating.

Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, David and Stanley Key of Saraland, AL, Reid and Ira Everett of Mobile, AL, Hank Smith of Orlando, FL and Lance Smith of Pleasanton, CA.

FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.

The family of Janelle Key wishes to acknowledge the professionalism and kindheartedness of Dr. Thomas B. Tan and his medical support groups of the South Baldwin and Sacred Heart Oncology Centers.
