Jannie V. Gates
(September 16, 1920 - March 21, 2012)

Funeral services for Jannie V. Gates, 91, of Urania, will be held at 1 PM Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Urania Baptist Church with Bro. Bo Prather and Bro. Jack McKeithen officiating. Interment will follow at Olla Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Riser Funeral Home in Olla and Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time at Urania Baptist Church.

Jannie was born September 16, 1920 to Homer and Yancy Holley Brister in Sikes and she passed from this life on March 21, 2012 at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. She was a member of Urania Baptist Church. She loved to quilt, sew, work in the garden and play bingo. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Jayson Gates; her parents; four brothers: Louis Brister, Arshal Brister, Pete Brister, and Holland Brister; son-in-law: Kenneth Sikes.

She is survived by two sons: Johnnie Gates and his wife Reba of Atlanta, TX; Hollis Gates and his wife Lynn of West Monroe, LA; three daughters: Barbara Smeby of Monroe, LA; Kathleen Sikes of Marrero, LA; Jeanne Wilson and her husband Joe of Urania, LA; three brothers: Stanley Brister, Homer Dean Brister, and Bobby Brister; two sisters: Virgina Hoover and Audra Pesnell; sister-in-law: JoAnne Brister; twenty one grandchildren: Terry Gates, Jerry Gates, Melinda Clark, Tanya Pounds, Sondra Ainsworth, Jeffrey Smeby, Tim Smeby, Marty Smeby, Brian Smeby, Kenny Sikes, Kerry Sikes, Kevin Sikes, Sharron Ladd, Holly Abate, Ashley Hamilton, Jana Collie, Ben Talley, Brooke Taylor, Mike Wilson, Richard Wilson, and Katie Kendrick; forty five great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Terry Gates, Jerry Gates, Kenny Sikes, Ben Talley, Jonathan Taylor, Brian Smeby, Marty Smeby, and Tim Smeby.
