Jarrod Lee Rub

JEWETT, Texas -- Jarrod Lee Rub, 39, of Jewett and formerly of Norwalk, Ohio, died Monday in Elkhart, Ind.

He was born in Houston and attended school there. He became disabled due to complications from an aneurism and remained partially paralyzed most of his life. He was also a recipient of a kidney transplant.

He worked numerous times as a volunteer giving disability awareness programs at various elementary schools. He also served as a volunteer for the Easter Seals and worked at a nursing home while living in Ohio.

Always a Texan at heart, he loved the Dallas Cowboys and the University of Texas Longhorns.

Prior to his disability, he was a member of the Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is survived by his mother and her husband, Frankie Jean and Bill Zekan of Jewett; a brother, Allyn Rub of Llano; sisters and brother-in-law, Karyn Schaffner of Montgomery and Sharyn and Ron Hanson of Jewett; stepbrothers, Bryan Zekan and William Zekan, both of Austin; a stepsister, Jeanne Bradford of Houston; maternal grandparents, Travis and Elsa Carlisle of Marquez; nine nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Allyn Rub; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Geraldine Rub; and maternal grandmother, Louise Petty Carlisle.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home, 814 Main St., Jewett, where services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Billy Bob Evans officiating. Interment will follow the services at Seale-Round Prairie Cemetery in Robertson County.
