JEAN MALONE SAXON
Jean Malone Saxon, of Karnes City, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2007. She was 86 years, 2 months and 17 days old.
Jean was born April 6, 1921 in Orange, Texas. She married Gene Saxon on November 20, 1940 in Austin, Texas. She worked many years at the Orange Leader in Orange, Texas as a newspaper reporter. She was sent to report on the devastating category 4 hurricane Audrey in June of 1957 near the Texas Louisiana border, using short wave radio to communicate back to the national news. Jean was a Methodist by faith and a member of Daughter of the Confederacy. While she lived in Orange, she was very civically active, participating in many organizations.
She is survived by her son, Mike (Stella) Saxon of Karnes City; 2 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Saxon; father, Thomas Claude Malone; and mother, Ruth Oliver Malone.
A Memorial Service was held Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church in Karnes City with Rev. Charles Gibbs officiating.
