J. W. HIGGASON
J. W. Higgason, 79, died at 12:30 p.m. today, after a lengthy illness, in the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. B. Hamm, of 2319 Linden.
He was born in Bradley county, in 1871, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Higgason.
He received his education in the Bradley county schools and in 1908 married the former Laura Armstrong, of Jersey, Ark.
Mr. Higgason taught school as a young man, before entering the mercantile business in Jersey and Arkadelphia, until his retirement.
He moved to Pine Bluff in 1947 to make his home with his daughter here.
Survivors include: Two daughters, Mrs. C. B. Hamm, of Pine Bluff and Mrs. Amy James of Camden; and four grandchildren, Laura James Hamm of Pine Bluff, Charles James, USN, Phillip Higgason and Kenneth Higgason, both of Little Rock.
Funeral services will be announced by the South Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 Thursday afternoon from the Jersey Baptist Church for Jefferson Webb Higgason, 79, who died Tuesday after a lengthy illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. B. Hamm, 2319 Linden street. Rev. Lloyd A. Sparkman and Rev. Vaughn will be in charge of the services.
Burial will be in the Jersey Cemetery with South Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Higgason was born in Bradley county in 1871, the son of the late William L. and Naomi Jane Higgason. He received his education in Bradley county and was married to the former Laura Armstrong of Jersey. He taught school in Bradley county until he entered the mercantile business in Jersey. He moved to Arkadelphia in 1921 where he continued in the mercantile business. At the time of his retirement in 1947 he came to Pine Bluff to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. C. B. Hamm.
He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. C. B. Hamm of Pine Bluff and Mrs. Amy James of Camden; four grandchildren, Laura James Hamm of Pine Bluff, Charles James of U.S. Navy, Phillip Larkin Higgason and Kenneth Stanley Higgason of Little Rock.
Active pallbearers will be: Carroll Smith, John T. Smith, Carl McClain, Harry Armstrong, Will Reynolds and James Calloway.
