J. Burkhalter Rites Thursday
Funeral services for Jerry Burkhalter, 75, an Amarillo insurance man 25 years, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel with Dr. W. Winfred Moore, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Llano Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be H. E. Billingston, Hope Cobb, Robert Ricks, Delmer Durrett, Roy Vineyard Jr. and Clifton Oliver.
The body will lie in state until 3 p.m. Thursday. The casket will not be opened at the service.
Mr. Burkhalter died at 3 p.m. Tuesday at his home, 4301 Olson.
He had been a resident of Amarillo 45 years. He was born March 26, 1887, in Mexia, Tex. He was active in the insurance business until three months ago when he suffered a stroke.
Mr. Burkhalter formerly was associated with the old National Bank of Commerce here.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and of the Men's Bible Class. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Gene, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. C. W. Kelly and Mrs. Jack D. Watson, both of Dallas; a brother, Frank E. Burkhalter and a sister, Miss Ina Burkhalter, both of Waco; and five grandchildren.
