Jerry Katherine Pace
Jerry Katherine Pace, a board of directors member of the Mid-South Fair and a retired physical education teacher, was as devoted to supporting the fair as she was about helping children. She died of pneumonia Monday at Methodist Healthcare-Central. She was 70.
Mrs. Pace received her master's degree at Memphis State University and taught physical education at Olive Branch High School, Immaculate Conception and Memphis State University.
She was an Army second lieutenant and served as a basketball referee during the Korean War.
An avid sports fan, Mrs. Pace was an all-state basketball player and was drafted by the American Red Heads (a professional women's touring basketball team).
Mrs. Pace served on the Youth Talent Committee at the Mid-South Fair, and was a former officer of International Agriculture Society and the American Federation of Agriculture.
Mrs. Pace, the wife of Will Pace, also leaves two sons, Jerry Pace of Arlington, Va., and Reggie Pace of Hernando, eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Glenns Chapel Methodist Church, where she was a member, with burial in New Bethlehem Cemetery in Horn Lake.
Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home in Hernando has charge.
