Jerry D. Prock

Jerry D. Prock, 70, a retired professor, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at his home in Bedford.

Memorial service: 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel.

He was born Feb. 27, 1937, in Sulphur Springs, but grew up in Eloy, Ariz., where he graduated from Santa Cruz Valley Union High School in 1956.

Dr. Prock attended Arlington Junior College and earned his bachelor of business administration and master of education in finance at East Texas State University. He earned his Ph.D. in finance at Arizona State University in 1970 with supplemental fields of management and marketing.

In addition to his degrees, he was a graduate of the Mortgage School of Banking and was a certified review appraiser. He also consulted in various fields of business and real estate.

He taught more than 44 years in higher education, including 12 years at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn., before retiring from the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg on Aug. 31, 2007, after 26 years of service.

During his educational career, he was named outstanding teacher at both MTSU and UT-Pan American. While at UT-Pan American, he also served as department chair, two years as acting dean and most recently director of the master of business administration program.

He served 10 years on the board of the Edinburg Teachers Credit Union and at other times served on the editorial boards of the Appraisal Review and Mortgage Underwriters Journal and the International Trade Journal.

He published one book, ``Texas Real Estate Exam Review,'' and had more that 50 refereed journal articles, and 21 regional, national and international presentations.

He enjoyed fishing and reading and was looking forward to entertaining his grandchildren. His absence will not go unnoticed.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eveline Hall of Mission.

Survivors: His wife of 48 years, Joyce Huffman Prock; son, Erik and wife, Hope Dodson, of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Leslie Prock Norton and husband, Andrew Norton, of Keller; granddaughters, Jaylyn Norton and Carmen Binder; grandson, Truman Binder; father, C.J. Prock of Young, Ariz.; and sister, Barbara Smith of Lewisville.
