Jesse Lamar Rehm

Jesse L. Rehm, 83 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 9:01 p.m. Thursday October 30, 2014 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born December 27, 1930 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the son of Howard and Leona Crum Rehm. On January 20, 1952, he married Janice Hartquist in Stronghurst. She preceded him in death on August 1, 2014.

Jesse moved to Stronghurst at a young age and graduated from Stronghurst High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was the manager of the Stronghurst Security Savings & Loan for many years. His hobbies included raising roses, yard work, furniture refinishing, and designing stained glass. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church of Stronghurst and served on the church council and numerous church committees.

Survivors include two daughters, Janell (Jerry) Cleland of Highwood, Illinois, Janine (Brad) VanVark of Pella, Iowa, three grandchildren, Justin (Erika) Cleland, Lyndi (Brett) DeVries, Andrea VanVark, and three great grandchildren, Haylie and Jaxon DeVries and Camryn Cleland. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and several brothers and sisters.

The funeral service for Mr. Rehm will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday November 3, 2014 in the Stronghurst Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Terry Muller officiating. Burial will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will be present from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Bethel Lutheran Church and Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab of Stronghurst.
