Jewel Whittington Matthews, 98, died Tuesday, October 07, 2014 at Copiah Living Center. Visitation will be 9:30am-11am Thursday at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church. Services will be 11am Thursday at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church with burial at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs is handling arrangements.

Jewel lived her entire life in Crystal Springs. She was a member of Pilgrim's Rest from childhood and was the oldest resident member.

Jewel is survived by son-in-law, Billy Armstrong and her three grandsons and their wives whom she loved dearly -- Matt and Kim Armstrong, Jon and Judy Armstrong and Webb and Louise Armstrong. She leaves five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren who will cherish her memory -- Kristen, Lauren, Ross, Justin and Lauren and great great grandchildren, Brayden, Kruz, and Jack. Jewel is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lauren who died in 2001.
