Jewell E. Chase

Jewell Estella Brady Chase, age 91, peacefully passed away on July 30, 2001 at McKay Dee Hospital, following a stroke and heart attack on July 12th.

She was born September 2, 1909 in Montrose, Mississippi to Andrew Lee Brady and Beatrice Lola Perry Brady.

Our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and friend is finally at rest and has joined her Lord and Savior and our Dad and many family members who preceded her in death.

She married her sweetheart Harold Edward Chase on October 15, 1927 in Farmington, Utah. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 19, 1971. Harold passed away August 2, 1993.

Jewell came to Utah with her mother and brothers and sisters when she was eight years old. In 1984 she returned to Mississippi, her birthplace, and visited her father's gravesite. She was very grateful for this opportunity.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and had been a member of the Lorin Farr 1st Ward (formerly the Ogden 8th Ward) for over 50 years. She served as a visiting teacher for many years.

She formerly worked for the Chrysler Corp. as ``Rosie The Riveter'' during World War II in California, at St. Benedict's Hospital and retired from the Defense Depot Ogden.

Her joys in life were her family, her home and beautiful yard. She loved flowers of all kinds and especially her gorgeous ``Peace'' roses, and pansies. Her breakfasts in the patio where she served up her special cornmeal pancakes were enjoyed by all.

She was a showcase winner on ``The Price Is Right'' TV show when she was 71 years of age, a great highlight in her life. She was affectionately called ``Gammie'' by just about everyone who knew her. The name originated with her oldest Granddaughter, Karen.

Surviving are her daughters and their husbands, La Von and Glen Chard, Layton; Bonnie and Gene Ruley, North Ogden; Barbara and Nolan Richins, Roy; Sharon and Kent Cowlishaw, North Ogden; Janis and Russ Montgomery, North Ogden. She has 20 grand children and 63 great grandchildren and 40 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, one sister, four brothers, two grandsons, one great grandson, and one great granddaughter.

The family would like to express their thanks and appeciation to all who cared for our Mother on 5th floor Acute Care and the T.C.U., Dr. Ross Kelson and Dr. Gary Christensen.
