Accident Claims 16-Year-Old's Life

Injuries suffered in a Saturday night highway accident claimed the life of 16-year-old Jimmie Ray Crum of Fort Necessity Tuesday.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Clinton Crum, Jimmie Ray was fatally hurt about 12:45 a.m. Saturday, when his father's 1960 truck overturned at the intersection of highways 618 and 135.

Walter A. Crain, 21, of star route south, driver of the truck, was charged by state police with reckless driving. He was taken to Rogers clinic by ambulance for treatment with Jimmie Ray.

State police investigation indicated the truck was traveling at about 60 miles an hour, when young Crain lost control of it as it approached a slight curve in the road. The truck left the roadway, then overturned.

Damages to the truck were estimated at $1200.

Funeral services for Jimmie Ray were held at Jigger Pentecostal church at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Jack Jones, assisted by the Rev. Herschel Clanton, officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.

Surviving the boy, in addition to his parents, are: two brothers, Clinton and Jerry Crum; and two sisters, Opal Jones and Kathy Crum.

Pallbearers were Carlton Jordan, Carey Winters, James Taylor, Carl Jones, Ronnie Parker and William Killen.
