Mr. Joe Prestridge

Mr. Joe Ray Prestridge, 71, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Curtis Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Mathis officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Prestridge, a native of Mississippi, had retired as safety director from DSM Chemical Co. He was founder of Augusta Safety Council and a charter member of American Society of Safety Engineers. He was a defensive driving instructor for 30 years. He was a member of Curtis Baptist Church, where he was a director of television ministry and a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Prestridge; two daughters, Jo La Nell Hutto, Williston, S.C., and Christine Witt, North Augusta; a brother, Thomas James Prestridge, Metairie, La.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Arvil Holt, Merrill Wilkie, Frank McKnight, Roy Scarborough, Jimmy Cook and Mark Baker.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and members of television ministry of Curtis Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home.
