Joe Carter Sr., Morehouse Farmer Dies Tuesday

OAK RIDGE (Special) -- A prominent Morehouse Parish man, Joe S. Carter S., 70, lifelong resident of Oak Ridge, died suddenly about 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete Tuesday morning, pending arrival of his daughter from Lafayette.

Mr. Carter for a number of years before his death was a well known farmer, real estate man, livestock raiser in the area.

He served on the board of directors for the Bank of Oak Ridge for a number of years until he resigned last year.

Mr. Carter also served as parish school board member for many years and was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Effie Odom Carter, Oak Ridge; one son, Joe S. Jr., of West Monroe; one daughter, Mrs. A. D. Montgomery, of Lafayette; four grandchildren.
