SHREVEPORT, LA - Joel Bryan Allen, 65, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 1993, at Willis-Knighton Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Shreveport on April 16, 1928, graduated from Fair Park High School and attended LSU Baton Rouge.
Services were held at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel on Saturday, December 18, 1993 at 1:00 p.m. Officiating was Dr. H. D. Smith, Jr., pastor of Western Hills Baptist Church. Burial was in Forest Park West Cemetery.
The family received friends at the funeral home between 5 and 8 p.m. on Friday.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Verda Allen; father, Ira W. Allen, and brother, Richard Allen.
He was dearly loved and will be painfully missed by his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Williams Allen; his son, Joel Allen, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; his daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and Wayne Lindsey, and Nancy and Bobby Chandler; his grandchildren, Kim Brock, Kristi Lindsey, Brandon, Clayton and Bryan Chandler and niece, Frances Penn.
Mr. Allen was a Baptist, a veteran of the Korean War and member of the American Legion Post No. 14. He retired from Courtesy Chevrolet (Chevyland) in April 1992 after 35 years and for 30 years he was a member of the distinguished Chevrolet Motor Division Legion of Honor for outstanding sales. He also received many sales awards from the Sales & Marketing Executives in Shreveport. During his 35 years at Chevyland, he was named the outstanding salesman during many months and years. All of his friends, co-workers and customers who knew him through these years appreciated his honesty, wit, charm and smile. After retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife, children and grandchildren, and fishing at his camp.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Drs. Randy Bryn, Robert Long, and Michael Moore and the 5th Floor ICU staff.
Pallbearers were Fred Gault, Jack Williams, Jimmy Raye, Rick Pharr, Ray Caston, Perry Montgomery, Jerry Montgomery, and Ed Byrum. Honorary pallbearers were present and past salesmen of Chevyland.
